New Year…Same Me...But with a New Challenge

The past few weeks have been a whirl of changes for me that have caused a lot of introspection. The biggest one was the loss of a past boss, inspiration, teacher, and dear friend. He left the world too early but the impact of his life has been felt by many. His friendship and faith will always impact me, but also his love for the arts. He never wavered at always creating new work and sharing the story of his photography with the world.

Fifteen years ago I challenged myself to take a photo EVERY single day for a year. {You can see the images here, but don’t laugh at them too hard. http://jennbrookephoto.blogspot.com/2009/ }. It was one of the hardest photography challenges I have done for myself. Since that time I only did it once again in 2011. That challenge made me grow! It pushed me to create, to learn, to appreciate more the little things I saw each day. It also helped me to share my work as I had a blog just for that endeavor.

Since this website is to help push and inspire photographers I thought it a perfect place to tell you about my Photo of the Day (POTD) for 2024. While in times past I have had it on a blog, and then made a book. I think this year I will host it on my Instagram Story and make a highlight reel. Days where the images are more about photography or photography education I will also add them here on the blog.

To start the new year, my first image is of a beautiful sunrise on Laniloa Beach near Laie, Hawaii. I have gone here a few mornings while here helping my daughter get moved into her new apartment for college. It has been a way for me to start my day with the beauty and peace this beautiful location offers me.
